Chair in National Security

The area of research interests

The Chair in National Security is a unit established on 1st January 2015 (as the Department). It was created after a group of academics specialising in national and international security, regional conflicts, strategic studies and law of armed conflicts separated from the Chair in International Relations and Foreign Policy.

The Chair in National Security is responsible for the teaching programme at the National Security field of studies, the research in the discipline of security studies and international relations studies, cooperation with the students interested in security issues, in particular with the National Security Student Association JU, but it is also responsible for the cooperation with external stakeholders working in the sector of national security and with foreign partners.

Head of the Chair: prof. Artur Gruszczak, PhD

Position: professor

Research interests:

  1. The area of freedom, security and justice of the European Union; the internal security of the European Union, with emphasis on police cooperation, the fight against terrorism and organised crime, border protection, the functioning of the Schengen area.
  2. Strategic studies, transformations in the military, the role of power in international relations, evolution of contemporary international military relations, the function and aims of contemporary armed forces, the hybridization of security.
  3. Information management, intelligence cooperation in the European union and on a transatlantic scale, predicting threats with the use of open-source intelligence.

prof. Bogdan Kosowski, PhD

Position: professor

Research interest:

He specializes in the broadly understood issues of systems theory related to the organization of security management in business entities, institutions and public administration bodies. Practical experience acquired in the State Fire Service, government and local administration, public institutions and business entities - confronts with theoretical knowledge. It combines and adapts the theory of organization science and management - with the science of security, using a system approach based on the analysis of risk associated with the variability of threats.
