Termin: 6.10.2015 godz. 16.00

Miejsce: sala 33, Instytut Amerykanistyki i Studiów Polonijnych, Rynek Główny 34

Abstract. The proposed talk examines a facet of the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia (1991-1995), namely the tendency of the various belligerents to suffer from internal splits, division and organizational breakdown. Some of the patterns observed in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia are also perceptible in the current conflict in Southeastern Ukraine, as the growing internal tension within each side escalates. The talk will also stress the implications of such developments for NATO-members' security challenges in relation to Ukraine crisis.

Short bio. An assistant professor in the Department of Political Science, Royal Military College of Canada and PhD candidate at Queen's University, Philippe Roseberry's research centers on the comparative analysis of ethnonationalism and intrastate conflict in CEE and the former Yugoslavia. He has published in Europe-Asia Studies on the use of mass political violence in Kosovo and is part of a research project on minority Territorial Self-Governance (TSG) in Europe and has a two-year long fieldwork experience in Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia.
