event-date: 16.10.2018
Place: Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Łojasiewicza 6), sala 1093
organizer: Jagiellonian Center for Quantitative Research in Political Science

Jagiellonian Center for Quantitative Research in Political Science cordially invites the academic staff and students of the Institute of Political Science and International Relations to its next seminar, where Professor Werner Kirsch (FernUniversität Hagen) will present a paper A Mathematical View on Voting, focusing on the weighted voting systems, such as the one employed in the Council of the European Union. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at 2.15 p.m., in room 1093 at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science (Łojasiewicza 6).

Abstract: We look at voting from a mathematical perspective. Our main interest are rather complicated voting systems, the main example of which is the Council of Ministers of the European Union. We’ll show how such systems can be analyzed mathematically and ask the question how a fair voting system for the Council can be constructed.
