The Department of National Security of the Institute of Political Sciences and International Relations, Jagiellonian University is proud to invite to the lecture by Brigadier General (ret.) Dr. František Mičánek from the Czech University of Defence in Brno.

The topic of the lecture is: Strategic environment, strategic culture, and leadership: The strategic triad. It will be delivered in English on the 17th of December (Thursday), starting at 18:00 (CET) on MS Teams. It will be followed by Q & A session (in English). This is the second lecture in the „Leadership” series organised by the Department of National Security.

Brig. Gen. (ret.) Dr. František Mičánek graduated from the Technical University in Brno. He joined the Czech Armed Forces in 1988, where he served in variety command and staff positions on tactical, operational and strategic level. In 1998 he was liaison officer of the Czech SFOR contingent in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In 2002 he was appointed the Chief of the Air Defence Branch and promoted to the rank of Colonel. In 2006 he became Deputy Director of the Force Planning Division. From February 2009 to June 2011 he served as Faculty Advisor and the National Military Representative of the Czech Republic to the NATO Defence College in Rome. In July 2011 he took office as Director of J5 Division in the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces and was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. 

In 2016 the NATO Military Committee appointed Gen. Mičánek to the position of the Dean of the NATO Defence College in Rome for the period from September 2016 to December 2018. After his return to the Czech Republic, he joined the Centre for Security and Military Strategic Studies at the University of Defence in Brno as a member of its directorate - Deputy Director for Educational Activities.

Apart from his research and teaching activities, he has frequently participated as a key speaker in various national and international conferences and workshops, made regular appearance in Czech public TV and gave interviews for radio broadcasting corporations.
