New book by Dr. Arkadiusz Górnisiewicz titled “Wojna i nomos. Carl Schmitt o problemie porządku światowego” [War and Nomos. Carl Schmitt on global order] has been published by Universitas.

In comparison with constitutional thought and political theology, the problems of war, international law and global order have not received the proper place in the Polish reception of the works of the German lawyer and political thinker Carl Schmitt. This study attempts to show that his international thought constitutes a thought-provoking though feasible depiction of the development of Europocentric international order in modernity and the grave consequences of its unmaking in the twentieth century.

The book explores such themes as the relationship between secularization or detheologisation and the emergence of the non-discriminatory concept of war, the rivalry between land and sea powers, the revival of just war theory and the origins of total war. It also underlines the relevance of Schmitt’s critique of just war to the contemporary global developments.

The book is avaliable in the Universtas bookstore.
